Bennett + Carter + Davis = A bundle of joy

We have five appointments for Carter this week, two of which were today. He had an oncology appointment at CHOC this afternoon. We met with Carter’s primary oncologist, and then Carter “yelled” down one of his other favorite oncologists while at the Cancer Clinic. Carter ran up to him and patted him on the hip. The doctor scooped him up and asked what he wanted for Christmas. Later, the doctor told Matt that Carter just made his day. Matt told the doctor it made Carter’s day and he’d be talking about seeing him all week…which he is.

The next appointment was an exciting one. We met with the surgeon to discuss taking out Carter’s central IV line (Broviac). He remembered Carter from having done his original biopsy and putting in the Broviac. The surgeon has a son one week younger than Carter, so it hit home for him when he met us when Carter was diagnosed. If all blood work comes back good at UCLA on Thursday, the surgeon is going to try and squeeze us in to remove Carter’s central line before the end of the year. We are crossing our fingers!

If you notice from the previous blog picture, our family had an outing to Fashion Island (outdoor mall) to walk around last weekend. This was a big deal for us. It was a pretty chilly day, so we knew there wouldn’t be too many people walking around. We bundled the boys up and sat outside and had lunch, and rode the carousel. We didn’t make Carter wear a mask. We felt like a pretty normal family having an outing. Although, it was interesting to see Carter’s reaction to everything. He hasn’t been anywhere outside of our home and doctor’s appointments for eight months. And for someone 2 ½ years old, this is all he remembers. So, it was funny he had no recollection of this place he had been to a ton prior to being diagnosed. Matt and I are enjoying seeing this world through Carter’s eyes!
