Throughout our journey in battling Carter’s liver cancer, we have been amazed by all the support of our friends and family. And we have been even more astonished by the kindness of complete strangers. We have received anything from encouraging blog postings to unbelievable care-packages filled with goodies for the boys. These are things that helped get us through the darkest days, and made us see the good through all the bad. Also, they made us realize we all have the same hopes and fears. Now, Matt and I can only hope to pass this along to our boys to encourage others and raise them up when something in life drags them down.
We wanted to mention a couple of strangers that happened upon Carter’s story and reached out to raise us up. Another amazing gesture is one that is awe-inspiring. Jason McAlister is doing a physical challenge in honor of Carter. His blog, www.jasonmcalistersbirthdaychallenge2010.blogspot.com says the following: So thankful to be alive and I try to enjoy and give thanks on a daily basis. I'm on a constant never ending journey to test my limits and exceed my assumed barriers. This year’s challenge will entail running 31 miles a day for a consistent 31 days. I seek support for a kid with an ongoing challenge and who along with his family remains positive, thankful, and never gives up. I'm asking for either a flat pledge for the entire 961 miles or an amount per mile, check out: http://welovecarter.blogspot.com/. Pretty incredible. We will be cheering you on along the way! If we all could learn from their examples and do one random act of kindness this year, the world would be a brighter place. Thank you guys for setting a precedent!
Matt and Kara - There is no doubt the reason you are being touched by such kind caring people during this journey....and that is you have been such an enormous inspiration to us all. You never slipped, you both always stayed focused,you've been loving parents and last but not least, positive even during the those rough roads.
