A REAL bath!!

Bennett was sent home from preschool last Tuesday with a sore throat and low fever. His fever went up and down for a few days and he ended up having a virus, which developed into a cold and cough. Needless to say, he was in quarantine in his room for those days. On the second day, Carter started crying saying, “I neeeeeeeeed Benny!” I said, “You mean you miss him?” And Carter said, “Yes! I miss him!” So, both boys were thrilled to start playing together again yesterday. Hopefully, Carter and Davis will remain virus-free.

Today was a busy day and started early with a CT scan at CHOC. Because Carter doesn’t have his Broviac (central IV line) in anymore, they had to inject the contrast dye for the scan into an IV in his arm. Luckily, there is a numbing cream we can put on his arms to help with future pokes. However, not being used to the cream, Carter struggled with Matt to put it on. Once he realized what it was, he calmed down. He’ll have to get used to this “magic lotion” as we will have to use it again on Thursday for blood work at UCLA.

Later today, we received the results from the CT scan. However, the oncologist has not gone over these results with us yet. We just have the printed report which was passed on to us. Some of the good key points we can read in the report are: “The lungs are clear…There has been some healing involving the left second anterior rib end…Post surgical changes involving the liver without evidence of recurrent or residual disease.” Yeah! The lungs and liver look good! The report also says: “Overall demineralization (of the bones) again noted…Rebound thymic hyperplasia present.” We knew the bones would still be weak because Carter is still on the same steroid dosage. Although, we didn’t know what the rebound thymic hyperplasia was. In doing research, we found this: “Most cases of rebound thymic hyperplasia secondary to successful chemotherapy occur within a year and the gland typically returns to normal size.” Let’s hope this is the case. So, overall, the scan looked good…NO CANCER!!

After a quick trip home for lunch, it was back to CHOC for an orthopedic appointment. The doctor took an x-ray and said Carter’s broken leg has healed nicely. We knew this was the case because Carter has been walking and running on it for the past 4-5 days.

The next appointment was to see our oncologist at CHOC. Carter had two shots in his legs, and was once again a trooper. He was glad to see some of his doctor buddies, and back home in time for dinner.
