Carter's surgery went well. Unfortunately, the preliminary pathology reports are cancer. Because we had been discussing the possibility of hepatoblatoma (liver cancer) so much, this wasn't a real surprise. I guess a small part of us hoped they'd come back and say, "Sorry folks, just a mix up". But at least now, we have a better idea of what challenges we face in the months to come. But with that report, poor Carter now has some new hardware protruding from his chest, the central IV. He woke up a very confused boy but seemed to bounce back very well. We think this is just a taste of Carter's resilience for the challenges ahead. We are so proud of his strength so far. While we can't imagine having to be in his shoes, we're amazed at how strong he is!
