Carter's Biopsy - Before

Carter awaits his biopsy

This morning Carter had biopsy surgery to obtain samples of his tumor. Our goal is to define the tumor and then solidify a plan of treatment moving forward. If the initial review of tumor tissue by an on site pathologist seems to be cancerous, the surgeon will give Carter a Broviac, or a central venous catheter. The Broviac will be used for administering medications and obtaining blood tests without pricking Carter with more needles!

Today brought mixed emotions for us. We want to be able to determine as much information as we can about his tumor but seeing Carter wheeled off for surgery was very difficult. He's such a strong boy and met this first challenge with flying colors.
