Pathology Confirms...Hepatoblastoma

This morning we received word that the biopsy results were finalized by the pathology team. The results were consistent with cancer. Hepatoblastoma is the rare form of cancer attacking Carter's liver. Because of the previous tests, this news was not a huge surprise. Our next steps are to address the challenges ahead.

Carter has continued to do very well. He spent more time roaming the floor and in the Play Room today. A daunting task that will fall on our shoulders once we are home is caring for Carter's Broviac catheter line. Keep in mind, this line has direct access to one of the largest arteries in his body and can be susceptible to infections. We intently watched as our head nurse replaced the bandages and thoroughly cleaned the site. Luckily for us, they have a doll, "Chester", who we get to practice on before the real thing! As for Carter, not even a flinch. He laid back and didn't make a peep as the dressing for his surgery was pulled free. We are so proud of this little boy. Every day he instills further confidence in us that we will overcome all the challenges of this disease. It's a long road but Carter is making us much stronger.
