Well, Carter’s check-in for his MRI at CHOC was 6:30am this morning. He was put under general anesthesia around 8:15am, and the scan was completed around 10:00am. During the scan, CHOC called our house and asked us to bring this new medication to Carter’s appointment with the oncologist at 11:00am. UCLA had ordered the medication, but they were having CHOC administer it. Well, the med got to our house at 9:30am today, so it was obviously not here when Matt and Carter headed out this morning. They got home at 10:40am, and we grabbed the med and put Carter right back in the car to head back to CHOC.
We had vitals done, were seen by a doctor, had blood drawn, and the new med was administered. It is to prevent RSV and Carter will get it once a month through March. Carter was flirting with our nurse (of course!), and she was so sad to have to give him the med. It required two big shots in his legs. After some consoling for a few minutes, we went out and he got to pick two prizes out of the treasure chest. He has band-aids all over him from IVs (from the MRI- they didn’t want to access his central line for increased risk of infection) and his shots, but he was a champ today!
Then, after getting home at 1:00pm, Bennett and I headed back to CHOC at 2:30pm for the H1N1 vaccine clinic for parents and siblings of patients. They are offering it for a couple hours during the week and have limited supply, so we needed to go today. Carter was relieved to hear Bennett and I got shots too…and that Dad got his on Monday.
We had our share of CHOC today, and are glad to not be heading there tomorrow! A break will be nice until we hear about when they have scheduled the bone biopsy. We want to get all this testing out of the way, and start getting good results!
Kara, so many hugs and thoughts and prayers go out to you tonight as I sit here and read about all your ups and downs these past few days. From yucky tests and waiting for results...to YO GABBA GABBA in person!!
ReplyDeleteI totally know the joy that was in your heart getting to see your boys experience such FUN! It was the same for me when Buzz Lightyear gave Wyatt a high five at the CHOC Walk. Wy was so blissfully happy, I couldn't help but tear up.

And he is still smiling! What an amazing little guy Carter is. Watched the Bonnie Hunt show and tried to find you guys but could just imagine how fun that segment was with Yo Gabba Gabba. Your boys must have been in heaven! What a thrillfor them! You had the longest day in the history of mankind yesterday...hoping you can relax (with a newborn, a child going to school and a little guy recovering from cancer)today...what am I thinking there is no relaxing for Kara but at least stay home. I'm always so in awe of what your days consist of for now and what emotions, patience, and strength that you have to endure hourly is phenomenal and unbelievable. You are always inspiring and reminding me to have more strength and patience with just our normal tasks of getting two little ones dressed and in the car daily, or with the simple brushing of teeth when a 2 year old wants to do it" All by my self!" and with a million more little simple examples. You are truly amazing, all 5 of you and I wish you nothing but good news, smooth sailing, and relaxing/fun times (more of days like on the Bonnie Hunt Show) ahead. Your smiles make me smile. Megan wears her "special" Carter shirt a lot...in fact she slept with it for 2 nights in a row. We can't wait to meet Carter and all the boys when he is able to have little visitors in the near future hopefully. We hope you have a great weekend! We love you!
