Starting to fill out

Carter continues to be a good eater. It’s so refreshing after so many months of having a limited appetite. Matt and I have started to notice Carter filling out a little more. Now when I pick him up, he doesn’t seem so fragile. Even though I know there are some brittle bones under there that need some TLC as well.

Matt and Carter headed out to UCLA early this morning. They got to see two of Carter’s favorite doctors up there, and his favorite nurse as well. They discussed putting Carter on a new oral drug, instead of the IV version we have had to do at home since transplant. The doctors had told us Carter would be on the IV version for 100 days post transplant, which was last Sunday.

They also discussed taking out Carter’s Broviac (central IV line) in a few weeks. We can’t wait! Yes, it is convenient now when we get blood draws and eliminates Carter having to get poked. But as the blood draws aren’t as frequent and us no longer having IV meds, the less need for the central line. It would be a lifestyle change…the risk of infection will be lower, the constant care of his line won’t be there, and he can take a REAL bath! Another great thing the doctor told us was that we may be able to start reducing Carter’s steroids soon.

And CHOC called us with an update on Carter’s blood work. His AFP is 11.3…still trending downward, which is great. And his ANC is over 3500. This is good because Carter has a cold right now and he needs all the white blood cells he can get to help him avoid infection and get better!

You brought a new life into this world and helped save another one. Does it get any more miraculous than that? Big hugs and lots of fun with all the boys! xoxo Cindy and John

  7. Carter looks great! He definitely seems to be filling out. That said, not to be forgotten is the big bro who also appears to have grown in these last few months. Baby Davis is lucky to have two big bros.

May the Kipp family have one of their most joyous Thanksgivings.
Big love and hugs to all five of you. Julie Weaver
