No MRI results yet

A couple days ago I mentioned that the doctors weren’t able to add Carter’s legs to the MRI scan because of timing. This would add an additional 90 minutes to the scan, and the radiology schedule doesn’t have any room left to squeeze. The reason for this is that more children are getting diagnosed with cancer every day. It is a world our family is immersed in right now, and perhaps this is why we hear of so many different stories. Regardless, it is heartbreaking to know so many others have to experience this terrible disease. We have a tremendous amount of empathy for each of these families.

We also continue to have so much admiration for the other oncology families we have gotten to know. Matt and I always update each other if one of us runs into one of the parents. We find ourselves being the cheerleaders for each others kids. It’s great when you see a child doing better than they had been during a down-point in their treatment, and absolutely incredible when you see a child at the end of their treatment entirely. We can’t wait to get there and be an inspiration for other families! We just need these good results!!

And speaking of, we did not get the results yet from Carter’s MRI. We are expecting to get these tomorrow. Also, Carter’s bone biopsy will be Monday morning. Tomorrow we are headed to CHOC to get blood work done for this surgery. They need to know Carter’s PT, or the rate in which his blood coagulates. We also were advised to discontinue giving Carter aspirin (which we have been directed to give him every night) until after surgery on Monday. Generally, they have people stop taking blood thinners at least five days prior to a surgery. Frankly, I wish we could discontinue taking the steroids. Prednisone is known to cause brittle bones. It is probably a main culprit (in addition to chemo) to why we have to get all this additional testing done anyway.
