Back on the list

Carter woke up feeling great. Yes, it was 5:45am, but he was happy and has no cold symptoms so we can’t complain. We called UCLA first thing to tell the transplant team Carter’s update and that he is doing well with no symptoms. As we were leaving a message, they were calling on the line to check in and see how he is feeling. He is officially active and back on the transplant list. We’re hoping to get the call soon.

Carter and I played at home all day. Carter’s taste buds change on a moment’s notice, so he tries several different foods constantly throughout the day. It is always a hit or miss. The past couple days his favorites have been cereal (or celelal as Carter says it), string cheese, and bagels and cream cheese. It’s funny, for the past couple months he’s avoided most dairy and now he is favoring it. Grandpa came over for lunch just as Bennett came home from soccer clinic, so both boys got to visit with him.

Matt held the fort down tonight as I got to go to my Grandma’s 80th birthday party. It was quite an event with about 150 people and the USC marching band in tow as well. It was great to celebrate her and get to see my huge family. Several friends of my family came up to me throughout the night saying they are following Carter’s progress and are praying for him. It’s so nice to see so much support. People don’t realize how important that support is and really helps carry Matt and I through this process. Happy Birthday Gramma!! Thank you for instilling in all of us the fact that family is so important and for being the ultimate optimist. These are traits I hold close to my heart, especially at times like this. Cheers to many many more years!

Not only is tomorrow my Grandma’s birthday, but it is Matt’s Mom’s birthday as well. Happy Birthday Jill (or Mom or Grandma)! It is impossible for you to physically be here for us through this ordeal with Carter, but thank you for always being there for us emotionally. You have no idea how much we need you, and know you would drop everything at a moment’s notice to come down. Thank you! We hope you have a great day and we love you!
