Carter loving his jam session!They finished doing Carter’s chemo drip at 3am this morning, and around 4ish he began getting restless. Then, at 5am and 6am he vomited. It definitely takes effect quickly. Luckily, they began giving him more anti-nausea drugs at 7am and he seemed okay the rest of the day. He ate a few things throughout the day and had his favorite dinner (chicken, pita and hummus). Hopefully, we are past the nausea.
Today was his day to rest before two chemo drugs tomorrow. We weren’t sure if we would be able to go home tomorrow night, but it isn’t looking promising. They would like to start Carter on a drug GCSF, which will help boost his white blood cells and neutrophils. This is given in shot form every night from the end of chemo and through to the next round or surgery. The chemo will cause Carter’s cell count to drop, and this drug will just boost it back up faster. The hope is to have Carter prepared for transplant at any moment through his cycle. So, tomorrow Matt and I will be practicing giving an orange a shot all day. And they would like us to give Carter a shot tomorrow night. Not fun. My friend, Kristen, who is the nurse practitioner at UCLA said to us we will be nurses by then end of Carter’s treatment, and I’m starting to believe her.
Carter was so exciting about the music therapy we had today. We have seen the music therapist working with a lot of the older kids on the oncology floor, and the Child Life person today asked if Carter would enjoy it. I knew he would love it. In fact, he loved it so much he was hysterically crying when the therapist had to leave saying “No all done! No all done!” Hopefully, he’ll be back to visit Carter tomorrow!

Yippeeee sounds like a pretty good day. Carter and I will have to dine together once he can have visitors because I love chicken, pita and hummus! That huge smile with his little bald head is so darn cute. Here's to more smiles and music! Have a good nights sleep and start working on the orange. ReplyDeleteWhat fun to have the music thereapist visit! Hopefully he'll come back more often. Carter looks so good and is so cute with his big smile playing the drums. Hopefully everything will be better for him this round and that shot will help his body be prepared for a transplant whenever the time is right. I hope for another great day and that maybe you'll go home today?!

Looks like Carter had fun with the Music Therapist - he is such a little cutie! Hope that the chemo drugs going okay today, and good luck with the shots, too. You are already the best nurses to Carter and will get even better!
