Rash test inconclusive so far…

Bennett and Grandma are serious about movies

Well, as Matt and I guessed, so far the rash test on Carter’s back has been inconclusive. They will leave the test tapes on Carter’s back until Sunday afternoon. The rash is now on his cheeks and forehead, so now they are going back to saying it must be a medication (as my dermatologist friend had suggested). It’s just frustrating for us because it’s a different round of doctor’s and nurses each time with their own theories. Obviously, it must not be the first medication we thought it was because it’s been out of his system for over a week now. However, I believe it is something else he is taking and the things we put externally on him just irritate it more. Aside from a little itching though, Carter is a happy little dude as silly as can be…especially considering the circumstances. He has his own sense of humor and jokes, and is making the atmosphere on the oncology floor so much lighter.

The chemo from yesterday did make Carter vomit last night, and again a couple times this evening. His eating is slowing down again because of the nausea. They are also trying to slowly reduce one of the pain meds which helps with jaw pain and tingling in the hands and feet. They think this may be possibly causing the rash. However, Matt and I are nervous because this medication really helped him and he began eating better after the jaw pain was gone. It’s all a guessing game and getting the right formula for Carter, it’s the process that is frustrating though. Carter has two more chemo drugs tomorrow, and then we’re hoping to go home! It will be nice this time to spend the week at home recuperating.

Matt’s Mom (Grandma) left this morning. We had a great time having her and she was a HUGE help this week. I don’t think we could have handled this crazy week without her. She ran our house and took care of Bennett. THANK YOU JILL! Bennett was sad this morning to see her go, and asked her to move in with us. She’ll just have to visit again soon!! Luckily, Bennett had a fun day planned at the Long Beach Aquarium today with his cousin and my Dad. Thanks Grandpa!

  1. Sounds like you guys are hanging in there. I love reading your updates and hearing that things are moving in the right direction. You are so lucky Carter is such an easy going child...he seems like a real trooper no matter how crazy it gets. I will pray you can go home tomorrow and have a calm week of rest and recovery...shrink and eat!!!! Big hugs and a good nights sleep. XOXO Cindy and John
