Another CT Scan

Carter's new card trick

Dad getting the boys all fired up before bed...

Ahh...Bedtime

Carter’s runny nose seemed slightly better today. We had an appointment at CHOC and the oncologist put him on an antibiotic (the same one he was on a couple weeks ago), in hopes that maybe it would make his cold go away faster. I’m willing to try anything. They also did the same mucus sample testing he had a few weeks back. I asked if they could order it stat, in case UCLA called tonight. I didn’t want them to be told Carter was being tested for swine flu again. The doctor said it’s a 24-hour test and we’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, we have a CT scan at CHOC. The oncologists had on our “roadmap” from the beginning of treatment that we would have a scan after Round 2 of chemo and then again after Round 4. A couple of the doctors didn’t see any point initially since we had an MRI at UCLA and they decided on a transplant. However, the oncologist last week said they would like to get it and ensure the cancer is still only in the liver. Carter does not have to be put under for this scan. Matt and I are actually glad they are doing it. We were feeling like they were kind of giving up on us and passing us along to UCLA. But we know after hearing stories about other children with hepatoblastoma that chemo is still a significant part of this process. Especially post-transplant, it is extremely important to do chemo to make sure no cancer cells drifted off to grow somewhere else. Carter is just going to have to deal with this cancer business once in his life, so we need to make sure we take every effort to make that happen!

  2. That is great that they are doing the scan again but I am sure that everything will look good. Hopefully the bloodwork will finish quicker this time and you can be ready for that "call" that should come soon. We are praying for it!!! We'll also pray that that baby turns around... We are always thinking of you and hope you have a great day with all you are doing!
