Quarantine

This morning Bennett woke up and said he had a throat ache. It’s hard to tell if he really is getting a sore throat or if he just needed a drink of water or something. Matt and I watched him very closely through breakfast, and he did sneeze quite a few times. By 10:30, we called the pediatrician and asked if Bennett could be seen. Luckily the pediatrician on call was our doctor who had given us Carter’s preliminary diagnosis of liver cancer, so he knows our situation well. He said Bennett has a bit of congestion and may be at the beginning of a cold or virus. He gave us an antibiotic prescription and said to fill it if Bennett gets a fever, is coughing, or his mucus changes colors. We are hyper-sensitive because we have to be right now. Matt and Bennett went out to lunch and stayed out of the house until naptime. Then, they came home and Bennett napped and is now having a sleep-over with Grammy. He was so excited to go over there. I feel terrible shipping him away with any slight symptoms of a cold, but it’s better to be safe than sorry right now.

Matt and I had dinner with Carter and the three of us played Hungry Hippos. Carter was so happy he got to play by his rules, which is to just keep grabbing the balls and throwing them back in. Bennett does not allow for this to happen usually. We got Carter upstairs early to enjoy a nice bath, did a Broviac dressing change and got him in bed at 8pm (of course, not asleep until 8:30pm). We’re hoping Carter stays symptom-free, and that Bennett’s ailments don’t really develop into a cold. These next couple of weeks are very important, and we must all stay healthy!

  4. Praying Bennett's cold or whatever it is goes in the name of Jesus. Maybe he just needed some TLC that only grandma could give! Something about grandma's chicken noodle soup...haven't quite figured it out...but even though it might be Campbell's there is just something about grandma's chicken soup! Many germ free & safe hugs, many more prayers & blessings!

  5. Just thinking about you Carter and your Mommy, Daddy and Bennett too.. It was so GREAT to hear from you guys a couple weeks ago. I can't wait until we can get together after all this is over and celebrate that we kicked cancer to the curb. Carter -- you are one of my biggest inspirations for strength..I have also now joined you in the "bald club":)

I love you all and think of you always!!!

    xoxo,
