Admitted again…

Unfortunately, our hopes of having a better day never really materialized. Carter woke up again very listless and just not himself. He’s had a cough for a few days but last night the cough seemed more and more frequent. We called the clinic to discuss some of the challenges we’ve been facing over the past few days and it was decided a personal visit was warranted. Once we arrived, I spoke with an oncologist who has become very familiar with Carter. He knew instantly Carter did not seem like himself and even wonder where the smiling little boy had gone. I immediately broke down walking him through our past few days and how this round is taking its toll on Carter. The doctor assured me he’d be fine but it would be best to monitor him for a day or so. Ugh…another hospital stay!

Carter’s cough was persisting all day and because of the unknown source of the cough, we are being placed in isolation to protect the other oncology kids. Basically it means we will have a private room, which is nice but limits our access to walking the floor and going to the playroom. Two things Carter loves to do while we are in the hospital. We arrived at clinic this morning at about 11:30am and after being seen, waited for a room to open up at CHOC through about 5:00pm. We’ve learned to be very patient when it comes to this process. Our problem is we can’t wait for this to be over for Carter! As we’ve said, the last couple of days have been rough and we are hopeful that while admitted to CHOC we’ll find solutions to make Carter’s round easier. He such a champ but we’ve got to find ways to ease the burden he's carrying!
