Carter thrilled he gets to go home!Carter had an okay night sleep with Grammy. He got sick before going to bed, and then couldn’t get back to sleep for a while after they took his vitals at midnight. Otherwise, he was ready for his third day of chemo in the hospital. We were anxious to get home today, so from the moment I arrived in the morning we were asking about when we’d be getting chemo this morning. They actually did both drugs before 10:30am. Then, we had to wait around to see the doctor, have the nurses look at his Broviac site and change the dressing, and sign discharge papers after the nurses finished their rounds with the doctors. Finally, we got to go home around 1:00pm and were home in time to greet Bennett after his last day of preschool for the year.
Carter’s rash has gotten better than when we came into the hospital. It has remained on his chest area, and is no longer oozing. It has dried out, as they have just let it breathe during our time in the hospital by dressing it with gauze and this netting shirt. Today, they cleaned it with Chloraprep for the first time in a week. It looks a little red from this today, but hopefully we won’t have to use that again for a few days. The new dressing they sent us home with is a small bandage directly over the IV site, then a piece of gauze, and the netting shirt. It’s nice to not have tape on the red area surrounding the site. Hopefully, this will give it time to heal. However, because it is not as sealed and sterile as the Tegaderm we will have to change this every three days instead of once a week.
Carter had a hard time going down for his nap today. Mom ended up having to hold him in the rocking chair for an hour and a half while he slept. He went to sleep okay tonight, and hopefully won’t wake up until the morning. He was pretty exhausted. He threw up numerous times this evening, and is definitely very nauseated from chemo. His aim is good though…all over him, Mom, the sofa, carpet. You name it. Matt reminded me this will someday all be a blur. Can’t wait!
Horray for being home! So happy to hear that you guys were able to leave the hospital yesterday. Matt is right, and soon enough this journey will be over and Carter will be cancer-free! You guys are superhuman for what you are enduring. I cry almost every day reading the blog - you all continue to be an inspiration to everyone cheering for you. Hope Carter starts feeling better over the weekend! Shrink, tumor, shrink!

We will continue to pray for shrinking of the tumor, good nights sleep for everyone, and a good appetite in the days to come. What a great big brother Bennett is and so brave that little Carter is! They are so adorable! Great work to Matt and Kara, you are incredible parents and I admire your teamwork in this time of much needed strength, exhaustion, and stress. Keep up the terrific work getting Carter better, growing a healthy new baby boy, and keeping Bennett's life running smoothly. Sending our prayers....
