The big smile we've been missing
Carter has another fever. We thought we were going to be going home Tuesday morning, and then Carter spiked a fever of over 103 this afternoon. We guess we're lucky they hadn't discharged us earlier because we would have ended up in the ER. The process to do blood cultures and start the antibiotic is much faster when you already have a bed on the oncology floor!
So, we know this drill very well by now. We'll wait 48-72 hours to make sure the blood cultures are negative and Carter doesn't have an infection. The oncologist said maybe it's just one bad virus that has affected him for the past few weeks. His ANC is very low right now, which makes him at an increased risk for getting anything. So, they were already going to keep us until these numbers came back up. And now with the fever, even more reason to stay. Hopefully, we'll be on the mend soon and can go home for the weekend. We're trying not to get too discouraged by this, even though it was an outpatient visit which turned into 8+ days in the hospital!
Dad and Bennett brought chicken, pita and hummus (per Carter's request) to the hospital for dinner two nights in a row now. Thanks guys! And Bennett has been SO sweet to his little brother when he sees him, and Carter just lights up!
Kara, Matt and Family,
ReplyDeleteEach time I am able read this blog my heart is filled with love for all of you and my mind is filled with prayers. And affirmations of healing and certain knowledge that the Holy Spirit continues to be with Carter.
Bennett and Carter are so good for each other.
Hugs,
Jan Ashby
I am sorry that he has a fever, but like you said, at least you were already there. I hope that he feels better soon and keeps on smiling. You are in my thoughts daily.
