Loves from Grammy...even after our accident

So, Carter had a hard time settling down last night. Once we’d get him to sleep, he’d wake up 45 minutes later crying and screaming. Finally, Matt took his pillow in and slept on the floor next to Carter at 11pm and stayed there all night. What an incredible Dad!!

Once Carter got up this morning, he seemed a little better. He was happy that Grammy was coming over in the morning and Denny brought lunch later, which Carter gobbled down. However, we did have to do another Broviac dressing change in the morning, and it was very irritating for him. The rash is almost like fever blisters producing some wetness, which causes the tape not to stick. It wasn’t until this afternoon that Carter seemed more irritable and just wanted to be held. Around 5ish, the fever started. It was a low grade fever and not high enough to monitor yet. Around 6pm it started getting higher bordering on our window of (100.4-101.3 degrees) when we need to call the doctor in this range for 4 hours or more. At 6:20pm Grammy was holding him in the kitchen and was just about to go home when Carter vomited all over one side of her, then he turned his head a couple seconds later and got the other side. We took them both upstairs and Carter and Grammy got a sponge bath. Grammy finally left and we had said Bennett might need to spend the night there (just to make it easy if we have to head to the hospital in the middle of the night). If Carter hits 101.4 at anytime, we need to go straight to the ER. At 7:45pm, Carter was 101.2. Matt took Bennett to Grammy’s at 8ish, and Carter told me it was naptime so I put him to sleep. And at 9:30pm, his temperature was 100.6. Let’s hope it continues going down.

If we go to the ER they immediately start him on an antibiotic and take blood cultures to look for an infection, and this process is 72 hours. Carter is supposed to go to the lab for blood work and have a CT scan on Monday, and start chemo on Tuesday. If we go to the hospital tonight, they will just keep us through the end of chemo next Friday. We don’t want this to happen! We really want to spend the weekend at home and enjoy Carter’s 2nd birthday on Sunday!!!! Good thoughts and prayers for the fever to go away!!
