Bone scan done

Well, it was another busy day running around getting tests done and scheduling Carter’s future appointments. Matt and Carter had to be at CHOC at 8am this morning for the bone scan. An early morning appointment involves bringing all of Carter’s meds pre-dosed and his IV meds in a cooler. Also, we know now to be prepared with some snacks because you never know how long you’ll end up being there. They actually didn’t inject Carter with the dye for the scan until after 10am. Then, they needed him to come back for the scan at 1pm. During this time, Matt ran Carter across the street to get another x-ray done. Matt confirmed with the tech several times that this was the correct x-ray today. And after the x-ray, back they went to get the bone scan. Once again, Carter was a trooper and did great!

In the meantime, I was home coordinating Carter’s future appointments. We thought we might have to head up to UCLA today to get the H1N1 vaccine as well. UCLA received 20 dosages of the vaccine for 400 liver patients. They were trying to vaccinate the most recent transplant patients first. Luckily, CHOC had a dosage on reserve for Carter and he is going to get it tomorrow. It saved us a trip to LA, and didn’t make a long day even longer. Also, we’ll be going to CHOC tomorrow for blood work (which we were supposed to get at UCLA today anyway). I was also working on getting the MRI appointment sooner than November 20. And with the help from our doctor and some people at CHOC, we were able to get an appointment for November 4. Unfortunately, the MRI will take place at 4pm. Carter is not able to eat 8 hours prior to check-in at 2:30pm. So, we will be waking him up at 5:45-6 that morning to eat a hearty breakfast. We have physical therapy and an oncology visit earlier that day, so we are hoping they’ll be good distractions from eating. It will be a very LONG day, but better than waiting another three weeks. We just want to get this testing done and behind us. Our doctor should be calling tomorrow with results from the x-ray and bone scan. Good thoughts!
