Well, the doctors have been talking about Carter going home tomorrow. We are hoping that is the case, we’ll just have to see how he is doing. Carter slept okay through the night, but did vomit this morning and then again this afternoon and this evening. He seems nauseated, so we aren’t pushing any food…we know better. Before Carter will leave tomorrow, he will have two more chemo drugs. All the doctors and nurses are acknowledging that it is Carter’s last round of chemo. Obviously, we can’t wait to be done and have this behind us…but it’s easy to get emotional about it as well. These people and this experience have changed us forever, and this has been our life for so many months. It’s crazy to think this may be the last night EVER staying at CHOC! Yeah!
Carter is staying next door to his very first roommate when we were diagnosed. Today is her 2nd birthday, and she is in the same room Carter stayed in on his 2nd birthday. She is inpatient right now because she had a fever and infection in her central line, just like Carter did last week. It’s nice to meet other families and share experiences, because we are going through many of the same things. Happy birthday Brooke! You’re doing great!!
We spoke to the oncologist today and we were talking about the plan for Carter once we are finished with chemo. After being inpatient this weekend, Carter will have chemo outpatient next Friday and again the following Friday. That will be the very last chemo treatment (it’s pretty unbelievable). Some time that last week, Carter will have a CT scan to make sure there is no cancer. Then, we will have oncology appointments once a month for a year. They will do either scans or ultrasounds every three months to continue to make sure we are cancer-free. The following year our check-ups will be every three months and so on. This is definitely a schedule we can deal with. Then, we have our UCLA visits; over the next 6-12 months these will start to taper off as well. We’re getting there…one day at a time!

You now know how strong you are and everything else you need to tackle in life will seem like nothing. Fantastic that Carter may be home earlier than expected...he always does so much better at home. What a long road you guys have been traveling, I can't wait for the days when this is a distant memory and the memories that are left are the ones like all the amazing people and experiences that have changed you for the better. I am so glad you got to see Brooke... well, at least Allyson. I was thinking that you started this journey with her and now she was there your very last day too. I am so happy for Carter not to ever go back to CHOC. And I am amazed that you can keep us updated daily even with your hectic schedule and of course, a newborn. You are an amazing mom, Kara.
