We got results from the GFR (Glomeruler Filtration Rate) kidney scan Carter had yesterday. It showed he has mild kidney damage from the chemotherapy. Apparently, this was to be expected. Of the five stages of chronic kidney disease, he is a stage 2 (stage 1 being the most favorable). We aren’t really sure what to do with this information and if the kidney regenerates itself and its functioning will improve over time?! We’re hoping this is the case. We left a message for CHOC asking these questions and have yet to hear back from them.
Carter had more energy today and his appetite is slightly improving each day…but improving! Every day that passes gets us that much closer to those poisons being gone from his body forever. His leg and now his arms have little bruises all over them. UCLA told us the bruising may get worse before it gets better, but his platelet levels should be going up and the bruising will stop. Luckily, Carter is completely oblivious to this all and it doesn’t seem to bother him a bit.
Well now...I guess the news could have been worse. I know you can live with one kidney so slight damage to both seems like it should be OK. It would be nice to have some answers from CHOC...I bet at his young age they can repair themselves once the miracle poison gets out of his body. Crazy that what saved his life has also done so much damage. Organic fruits and vegetables will help him replenish and build back to a strong body. ReplyDeleteWow you guys, mild kidney damage! I'm guessing that if it's to be expected than they will know exactly what to do about it. Hopefully it will regenerate itself and will improve on it's own over time now that those harsh toxins are and have been leaving his body (including the cancer...yuck!) I've heard that antioxidents are good for the body to fight bad things inside and keep us healthy....not sure how young is too young for them though. Anyway, you guys are all doing so well otherwise and things sound great with his appetite...yeah! Can't wait to hear more! Have a great day!
