Captain America and Super CarterThe x-ray today and orthopedic specialist confirmed…Carter has a broken leg! Oh my gosh! That’s all we can say. This poor guy has been through enough. The break in his leg is in the lower part of his tibia, right above his ankle. He has a cast that goes above his knee. The doctor gave him a shoe for the bottom of the cast so he could walk on it, but it’s very cumbersome. Luckily, he only has to wear it for three weeks. It will seem like a long three weeks though. The one great thing through his treatment is that he starts to feel better and becomes more independent and mobile. This will be difficult now with a huge cast on his leg. And this broken leg will also delay the beginning of Carter’s physical therapy treatments to strengthen his legs post chemo.
The doctor today asked what color cast Carter would like, and there was an array of colors. Carter immediately said, “Yellow.” The doctor said, “Okay, well its pretty much beige.” So, Carter picked the regular cast color, and we later found out it glows in the dark. This isn’t the greatest perk for parents that are already having a hard time getting their two year old to sleep at night. Oh well.
We are two months post liver transplant today!! On this front, Carter is doing great! With everything we are going through right now, we have to be grateful for this. This was the biggest hurdle and accomplishment. So, it helps to put it all in perspective. We can have a little more patience to deal with a needy child with a broken leg and some nausea.

ReplyDeleteI speak strength to Carter's bones. I speak building up where there is any lack of calcium in his bones. I speak health over, in and through Carter right now in the mighty name of Jesus. Holy Spirit touch Carter's tibia and heal it in Jesus' might name, repair it so it is stronger then it started with. Bless this family abundantly in Jesus' mighty name. Many hugs! p.s. ReplyDeleteA broken leg, ugh! I'm so sorry!!!! We are sending prayers for healthy bones, happy pre schoolers and sleepy (non colicky) babies in your future today and days to come. The rough road continues, I just hope that you at some point in your day get some respite and can feel the prayers and good thoughts coming your way!

Love the pic, and Benny's costume! I cannot believe Carter has a broken leg!? Hopefully it will heal within the next 3 weeks and the cast will come off in time for Halloween! So glad that everything is going well with his liver, and great that he is already 2 months post-transplant! Hang in there, Kipps!

Love the picture! Can't believe the broken leg. I think you and Matt need to sit down and have a bottle of wine. You guys are unbelieveable with your strength in handling the bumps in the road. Hang in there. You have a HUGE team of support behind you.

I can't believe it...a broken leg!!!???? I guess when you put it in perspective, you've been through worse to say the least and made it this far!! You can make it through anything now. That is awesome that today is 2 weeks post transplant and things are pretty much (other than the leg of course) going well. Your end is coming soon... Hopefully my prayers worked for the colicy little guy today.....Hang in there. you guys are amazing!!
