It’s definitely been a long and crazy five months, but we know we are nearing the end of this course. We’ve learned a lot along the way, and appreciate life and each other so much more. We just wish we didn’t have to use Carter as our guide to come to these realizations.
Carter and Matt spent the morning at UCLA. Carter’s liver levels are trending back down, which is great. His Prograf level (which is his main anti-rejection drug) is high, so the doctors are having us reduce this medication for the time being. When this level is high it causes restless sleep…which explains why Carter was up about every hour last night. We’re making some adjustments to the meds through the weekend and will hopefully see some results. We definitely need all the sleep we can get these days. We also found out Carter’s ANC level (the level which helps him fight infection) is a very low 400. We’re still going ahead with our middle dose of chemo tomorrow, but will be extra sensitive to keep Carter healthy until those levels are up. This may be challenging with an older brother who just started a new year of preschool, but we will try our best.
Wash wash wash everyones hands is the best way to keep infection down as you already know but Benny will be the guy to wash head to toe! Those little preschoolers are loaded with germs even when they are well. Yikes! You are doing such a great job with so many factors...a new baby to care for, a little guy winning his cancer battle and a 4 year old boy doing all the fun things 4 year olds do. Oh My! Your plate is super full and you continue to do it with grace...wow is all I have to say. Keep on doing what you are doing and I am praying for a restful weekend...you all deserve it! ReplyDeletePraise God the liver levels are returning to healty normal. Commanding the ANC levels to return to healthy normal levels in Jesus' name. I just love the duck fuzz he has growing on his little head....soon he will have a head full of hair and back to his normal healthy self. Will pray God gives you the strength ahead of time because you are going to need it! Many hugs and many more prayers & blessings!
ReplyDeleteWe're so glad the liver levels look good and will pray that Carter stays healthy despite his big brother starting preschool recently. Just make Bennett gets as clean as possible once he comes home and that should help. You guys are doing great and it will all be behind you soon.

ReplyDeleteI just spent the last hour reading your blog. I can't even express the feelings inside me right now. I have a two year old son and another baby on the way. I don't know how you have had the strength that you do. Carter is an amazing boy and will have a life full of love and laughter. What an amazing story he will have to tell. My prayers will be with you all.
