Four weeks since Carter’s liver transplant!

It’s hard to not recognize successfully passing each milestone. We are four weeks out since Carter’s liver transplant, and the emotions from the surgical waiting room that night are still so alive and vivid. It is so nice to be at this point now, and hopefully will become even more reassuring as the days go on.

Before this baby is born next week, I wanted to acknowledge the reason we are doing this all…the baby of our family now, Carter. I hope for him to look back and read this some day and be so proud of the inspiration he gave so many people.

Carter, you have been so courageous through all of your treatment. Dad and I never doubted for a moment you wouldn’t be able to handle this and make it through everything successfully. If we had done that, we would have failed you. A lot has been asked of you at such a young age and you have taken it with stride. You have learned to become very patient, and luckily already had a very easy-going demeanor. You have grown up so much in the past 5 months, and we are so proud of the little guy you are becoming. Dad and I find ourselves just watching you dancing or singing by yourself and look at each other and smile because we know how special you are. We can’t wait for you to finish this final journey of your treatment and will celebrate with you along the way. Thank you for being goofy and making us laugh through the most difficult time in our lives. We hope you continue that light-hearted spirit through life and we know you will continue to win over the hearts of many.
